Genevieve Frew

Genevieve Frew-spGenevieve is a professionally trained actor and holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and Theatre.  She is originally from Sydney but has been living in Melbourne since 2005 and has been working as a simulated patient since 2006. She has worked with all the Victorian universities performing in exams, tutorials, training films and workshops.  Genevieve feels honoured to have worked with undergraduates as well as Masters and PhD students across multiple disciplines including general medicine, nursing, psychology, physiotherapy, nutrition and dietetics, speech pathology, obstetrics and gynaecology, surgery, and prosthetics and orthotics. She regularly performs in training and assessments for doctors in general practice where their skills are examined and refined for more consistent and efficient patient-centred care. Many of the simulation scenarios contain little or no script and are based around a great deal of patient medical and social history. Genevieve is very comfortable improvising these roles whilst consulting with the medical educators regarding their proposed teaching outcomes. Genevieve really loves this work and is so pleased that it continues to grow, particularly throughout Victoria.

Lyn McLeod

Lyn McleodLyn says she was fortunate enough to be asked to role-play for exams in the late 1990s. It was the perfect blend of her teaching and acting background. Lyn believes that she has learned so much from lecturers and tutors as simulation steadily grew.  The roles that Lyn does now are extensive from birth to death. Lyn also does emotional roles such as the loss of a child, loved ones and the conversations needed for end of life choices, mental health, domestic violence, cardiac and stroke. She has the ability with accents so has played Greek, Italian, Russian and German roles. Lyn looks forward to going to work and learning from each simulation.

Krissi Thomas

KrissiKrissi has been involved in local theatre for many years, which ultimately led to her involvement in simulation. Starting with the Gippsland Regional Clinical School in 2007, and working regularly with the School of Rural Health / Gippsland Medical School since its inception in 2008. She has taken opportunities to work with international graduates in skill building workshops, and a number of research projects with Prof. Debra Nestel. Whilst she has been utilised in physical examinations, her strength and greatest contribution has been in history taking scenarios. Her focus has always been bringing a believable emotional level to any simulation, and where needed, providing an emotionally challenging scenario for the student/candidate.
